Administration

Mykola Skyba, the expert of the programme “Education” of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, believes that the salary should be an incentive for teachers for improving skills.

The current level of the teacherʼs official salary and the level of responsibility are scarcely compatible. Salary should cover all the necessary expenses, so that teacher would be more concerned about his own professional development and the quality of teaching, rather than worrying about survival. And it is important to focus not just on the current situation in the industries or the market, but on the expectations and lifestyle of the middle class. The teacher must certainly belong to it, both by having an adequate income and by being open-minded.

In this case, there are two things to do:

– linking salary increases to professional strengths.

– letting the teachers conduct independent professional activities.
