Coalition negotiations in Iraq on the formation of a new government are going on for more than 120 days already. During the whole summer, the process was basically blocked, and a real political struggle for future ministerial portfolios and roles in the coalition broke out in Iraq. Since the end of the parliamentary elections on May 12, the political landscape in Iraq has changed significantly and now resembles a battlefield, and only one can come alive out of it.

The beginning of a new political season in Iraq has finally opened the veil of secrecy over the negotiations, and political opponents have put their pieces on the chess board, ready for decisive and courageous actions. The autumn of 2018 will be the final phase of the Iraqi “coalition” and will determine the future of the whole country because the stability and integrity of the state itself depend on the formation of the new government.
