The author of this material is an expert of the Ukrainian Institute for the future Ihar Tyshkevich. The text was written for tsn.ua/blogi in March 2016 but has not lost its relevance until today.

Both Nations have specific mentality that makes them move not forward but in a circle.

So, let’s talk about some manifestations of the mentality of these two nations: Belarusians and Ukrainians. And about one common feature that prevents them from moving forward.

Thinking with heart and a cold calculation

Belarusians and Ukrainians. These two nations, on one hand, are very similar, and on the other – very different, like the poles of a magnet. The main difference is the way they react to external stimuli. In Ukraine drastic solutions are popular. Belarusians are known for being “too apathetic”.

According to my observations, the reason is that Ukrainians are an emotional nation. There’s a reason why they are known for “thinking with their heart”. The Belarusians, on the contrary, love to calculate everything. Sometimes even too much.
