The Verkhovna Rada is at a deadlock with parliamentary immunity

Abolishing of parliamentary immunity is the main theme in Ukrainian politics over the last 7 days. Documents on at once several people’s deputies were submitted to Verkhovna Rada. Discussion of these issues in the profile committee and, especially, the results of voting, each of the parties can add “to their credit”: even those deputies, who are under investigation and prosecution, can freely move around the world, and two still remain “inviolable”. On the other hand, the prosecutor’s office can report on a breakthrough in the investigation of high-profile cases – three people’s deputies were “given for work” in one week – this is the record in the Ukrainian system. If we pay attention to the process of discussion and voting, however, the situation is very sad and shows a crisis of power and a crisis of confidence even inside the system.
