TO CATCH UP AND OUTDO AMERICA: WHY RUSSIA GOES BACK TO AFGHANISTAN AGAIN

A delegation of the Taliban terrorist movement arrived to Russia for peace talks (even though they are informal) with the Afghan government. Moscow acted as a mediator. This meeting forced many in the world to talk about the “renewed” interests of Russia in Afghanistan.

This is connected with the global strengthening of China, which allows it to begin its expansion in the region, that was considered to be a zone of influence of Russia, India and Pakistan for many decades.

In addition, the security situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated so much that the Taliban terrorists have not only regained their strength to pre-war levels but have also expanded their presence in the regions. Today, the Taliban controls more than 60% of the territory of Afghanistan.

In this situation, Washington is gradually returning to the idea of peace talks between Kabul and the Taliban. The launching of this process was one of the reasons that prompted Russia to intervene in the situation and try to seize the initiative away from the Americans.
