The crisis in the Azov Sea, on the one hand, is a logical continuation of Russian policy in the Crimea and Donbas. On the other hand, it is a direct result of the peculiarities of Ukrainian politics, or, to be precise, the habits of part of our elite to hope that “it will resolve itself”, “somehow it will work out.”
The Sea of Azov according to the signed and ratified in 2003 “Agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait” is the “inland sea” of Russia and Ukraine. That is, both states have the right to use the resources of Azov, and the presence and activity of third parties is possible only with the consent of Moscow and Kiev.
