Those who are dissatisfied by actions of the Romanian government are now joined by the mayors of large cities, that are underfunded under the draft budget for this year. Meanwhile, Transparency International has documented the decrease of the Corruption Perceptions Index in the country by one point. It is thought that the reason for such result is last year’s resignation of chief prosecutor of Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate Laura Kövesi. While the Romanian government got rid of the active fighter with corruption, Kövesi`s professionalism is given encouragement in the EU: she is now the main candidate for the position of European Chief Prosecutor. Romanian Minister of Justice Tudorel Toader (he fired Laura Kövesi) promised to do everything to block her candidacy.
