Brexit as a Rhetorical Exercise: How does Britain’s Leaving the EU Proceed So Far

Three rounds of negotiations on Brexit, which have been lasting since summer, do not bring much success.

On September 25th there begins the fourth round, and a month later, on October 22, the European Council must decide if the “sufficient progress” has been reached on controversial issues in order to move from discussing the terms of separation (EU priority) to the actual future relationship (UK priority).

The set of controversial issues did not change, and the progress on their solution was too slow. This is primarily the future status of the British people in the EU and citizens of EU countries in the UK, the financial obligations of Britain, the future of the border with Ireland and the related to it peaceful settling in Northern Ireland.

In the end, there is a question on how the relations between Great Britain and the EU will develop in the future and if there will be a need for a transitional period after the official date of withdrawal.
