Glen Grant, an expert on national security and defence of the UIF spoke about the importance of investigations as a key tool for ensuring the legitimate, correct and effective management of the defence sector. Investigations are an essential part of any democratic society. In a closed military society, investigations are an important part of civil control over activities and resources conducted by the government, parliament, state and military authorities. They are a key tool for ensuring the legitimate, correct and effective management of the defence sector. The results of the investigations help to inform the public whether the funds are being spent correctly. Investigations are also a vital factor in protecting military personnel from abuse of authority, which is often inherent in military service. The current defence laws on discipline and control have been updated to cover new issues related to the conflict in the East and contractors. Most of the amended laws are comprehensive and are of high quality.
