The entrance campaign in higher education institutions has started in Ukraine. Registration of online cabinets will last from 2 to 25 July, and from 12 to 26 July it would be able to apply and submit all needed documents through this interface. As at 3 July, more than 14 thousands of cabinets were activated and this is about 10% of all entrants that will be applying this year according to data of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Submission of documents in electronic form through a centralized resource has been used in Ukraine since 2016. But people are still rather reluctant regarding using it, particularly because of different “bugs” existing in software and problems with computing power. Last year this system could not withstand the simultaneous influx of those wishing to receive higher education. So the main concerns of the entrants and their parents are about whether there are enough points to get studying funded by country budget, how to accurately enter all the data and whether they have all the necessary documents. This year Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has given detailed instructions and clarifications as to how to set up the system. Therefore, we hope that everything will be well on the technical side. However, being concerned with all these technical troubles we should not miss something very important – what higher education is today and what practical role it plays; what processes are taking place in it and what to expect in the coming years?
