Co-founder / Director of Political Programs of the think tank Ukrainian Institute for the Future Yuriy Romanenko gave an interview to RBK-Ukraine.
Yuriy, how would you describe the current state of emigration from Ukraine? The number of those who leave the country, in fact, is constantly growing.
– Actually, Ukraine today represents a hybrid of feudalism with democracy and slavery, i.e. – a hybrid mix of different ways of life, where different social groups have different status, and accordingly – different opportunities, mobility, etc. For example, as the sociological survey of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future shows, almost 50% of the population in Ukraine has never left the boundaries of its region within the last 15-20 years. Mostly these are older people, who within the last 10-15 years or even 20 years have not been anywhere. They are literally tied to the ground, their garden and homestead plots that give them food.
