We present another material from our cycle #international_politics_for_dummies where we explain complex international processes in simple words
In response to large-scale demonstrations, which caused huge damage to Paris and the economy, President Emmanuel Macron imposed a moratorium on raising fuel taxes for the next six months. However, the protests did not stop, and some demonstrators began to put forward political demands, such as the resignation of the president and the change of the political system.
The French government expects that the demonstrations will begin to fade, and the number of participants will decrease. After all, the protests irritate the residents of Paris. Not everyone supports the demonstrators, especially when the pogroms and burning of cars and shops begin. The Macron government does not want to resign and uses the fact that the “yellow vests” do not have political overtones yet.
However, the aggravation of the confrontation is quite likely in case of any excesses and if the government will introduce unpopular economic reforms again. In any case, the protests in France showed the end of the traditional order in the country.
